2015, Week 18

Renfrow Farms Market is getting a makeover. We are expanding the porch on what we call “Lilly’s House,” which is the small cinderblock building in the center of our farm, where we host our on-farm market stand. We will be opening again on Tuesdays, starting on June 2nd!

Pressly and Ruth had a busy day on Monday preparing the soil and planting around 100 pepper plants, 150 tomato plants, and a long trellis row of cucumber seeds. The nighttime temperatures are finally rising to the 60s this week, which will really make our heat-loving crops like these JUMP!!

Our ‘Meet the Beekeeper’ day on Saturday afternoon was fun and so informative. We had a great turnout of eager learners who are contemplating putting hives in their own backyards. Folks also enjoyed sampling the four harvest seasons of honey from our hives. John Caudle, our beekeeper even had a hive that he transferred into an attendee’s care. (He sells starter hives – email me for John’s contact info if you are in the market for bees!)

The newest members of the farm arrived Monday evening – seven teenage chickens who will keep Matthew and Pressly supplied with eggs starting in a few months! It’s only natural that our very first pets are farm animals 🙂

Thank you all for your support and encouragement this spring. Our best to those of you who are taking the gardening plunge for perhaps the very first time this summer!
